WEST ALLIS, Wis. (WAUK) – The first candidate to declare they’re running for the open 14th Assembly District seat made their announcement this week.

Brady Coulthard, a Democrat, announced his bid on Monday.

Coulthard said in his campaign announcement that he has been active in progressive politics since 2018, including an appointment by Gov. Tony Evers to the Wisconsin Higher Educational Aids Board. He also cited his experience in working with the Democratic Party in both Milwaukee County and the state.

“We can make choices about what we want Wisconsin to look like next year, in five years, and even 20 years from now,” Coulthard said. “I have a track record of working with anyone for the sake of serving my community, including helping to move legislation forward in Madison.”

The legislative redistricting bill signed last month created a vacancy in the 14th District when incumbent Rep. Robyn Vining, a Democrat, was moved into the 13th District. Vining is one of 15 Assembly representatives drawn into another legislator’s district. The 13th District is currently represented by Republican Rep. Tom Michalski.

District 14 after redistricting will include most of West Allis and parts of Milwaukee and Wauwatosa and is largely contained to the area around the Zoo Interchange and south. The previous district stretched north and south along Interstate 41, from the Town of Butler down to south of West Allis, and included most of Wauwatosa.
