DNR: State trail passes for 2023 now being sold

March 28, 2023 1:16 PM CDT

MADISON, Wis. (Civic Media) – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says 2023 state trail passes are now being sold.

According to a release, the annual passes are good from the date they are bought until Dec. 31, 2023.

Passes are $25 for everyone, including people from out of state. $5 day passes are also available. The passes are required for anyone 16 years old or over that want to use state trails for biking, in-line skating, horseback riding or off-highway motorcycle riding on specific state trails. The pass is not required for anyone who is hiking or walking.

In addition to the trail pass, some areas will require a 2023 state park and forest annual vehicle admission sticker or day pass to access some areas. County and local trails may also have their own fees and state passes wouldn’t be valid at those trails.

“State trail pass sales help DNR staff maintain these trails, both our linear trails and those heavily used trails inside of parks and forests for bikes and horses, and it helps us continue to expand the network of available miles to residents and out-of-state visitors alike,” Steve Schmelzer, Parks and Recreation Management Bureau Director, said.

For more information on state trail passes, you can visit the Wisconsin DNR website.
